IAMDC Launches the America250 Podcast

Our museum was founded with a clear mission: to preserve, promote, and celebrate the history and culture of Italian Americans—and to share that story in our nation's capital, where American history is continuously interpreted and renewed. Through exhibitions, lectures, educational programs, cultural events, and community partnerships, we highlight the profound impact Italian Americans have had on the United States—often in ways that are not fully told. As America marks 250 years of independence, we see this moment as both a celebration and a responsibility.​​​

This podcast series extends our educational mission beyond our walls. Each episode will explore the lives of Italian Americans who shaped our republic: patriots, public servants, artists, entrepreneurs, innovators, and everyday citizens whose contributions strengthened the nation. Please find a running-list of the important Italian American figures we have covered so far on our podcast.

Episode 1: Lorenzo Da Ponte, an opera librettist known for bringing opera to the United States.

Episode 2: Mother Cabrini, a Saint known for her deep devotion to the Catholic faith.

Episode 3: Philip Mazzei, a diplomat, winemaker, philosopher, and agriculturist.

Episode 4: Carlo Bellini, the first professor of modern languages in the United States. 

Episode 5: Constantino Brumidi, a painter considered the "Michelangelo of the Capitol."

Episode 6: Arturo Toscanini, an orchestra conductor famous for his classical performances.

Episode 7: John Cabot, a navigator and explorer, famous for his expedition to North America.

We will also examine the immigrant experience—the challenges of prejudice and exclusion, the power of faith and family, and the belief in opportunity that defines both the Italian American journey and the American promise.

From Washington, DC—at the heart of our democracy—we invite listeners across the country to reflect on how heritage informs citizenship, and how cultural identity enriches the American story. Our IAMDC America250 Podcast is a tribute to 250 years of the Republic and to the Italian Americans who helped build it.
