Thirty-third Anniversary of Judge Giovanni Falcone remembered in Washington DC

The memory of Italian Judge Giovanni Falcone, assassinated by the mafia 33 years ago, was honored this Sunday at Holy Rosary Church and Casa Italiana, with the presence of Embassy

officials and the larger community. A civic ceremony in Casa Italiana followed a mass celebrated by Fr. Diego Puricelli.

Francesco Isgro, President of the Italian American Museum of Washington DC introduced the speakers: First Counselor Michela Carbonieri, First Counselor, Embassy of Italy, and keynote speaker Dott. Emilio Russo, Brigadier General of the Italy’s State Police, who knew Judge Falcone personally and delivered heartfelt remarks. Two Carabinieri, Luogotenente Raffaele Bonito and Brigadiere Francesco Vertaglia, honored Falcone by their presence at the event.

Our thanks to all the organizations co-sponsoring the event, particularly the Lido Civic Club and Holy Rosary Church, as well as the  National Italian American Foundation, Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, Donne Italiane che Vivono all’Estero, COMITES DoC , Abruzzo and Molise Heritage Society, Italians in DC, Italian Cultural Society,  Casa Italiana Language School, National Organization of Italian American Women and the Italian American Museum of Washington DC.
